Joining

Orchestra membership is by subscription, with a reduced rate for students.

Good string players, particularly cellists and viola players are currently needed, however we sometimes have vacancies in other sections and any membership enquiries will be keenly received. We do not hold formal auditions: instead, new members are invited to join for a trial period.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are always on a Monday with the exception of Bank Holidays when there usually is no rehearsal. Orchestra members should try to attend all rehearsals - if members cannot attend they should advise their Section Principal and ensure that their music is sent along for markings to be entered.

Additional rehearsals may be called in the run-up to concerts; there is usually a rehearsal on the Friday evening and the Saturday afternoon prior to a concert. Please note that full attendance is appreciated at all rehearsals in the week of the concert.

Wind and brass players not needed for any particular rehearsal will be advised accordingly. All rehearsals are held in All Saints' Church Hall, Hoole Road, Chester CH2 3HZ. Rehearsals start at 7:30pm; please allow time to park. Refreshments are available in the interval.

Concert dress for performing members is: Ladies - long black dresses / skirts; Gentlemen - Dinner jackets with black bow ties. You will need to provide your own reliable music stand for both rehearsals and the concert.
