Chester Philharmonic Orchestra

Finland 100

Wow, what a fantastic night in the presence of the Sheriff, our local MP and Finland’s Cultural Attache. Many ‘ex pat’ Finns were also there including several women in National Costume. They came from far and wide and also included the Honorary Consul from Manchester. Here is what Pirjo Pellinen thought….. and did themselves and Finland proud tonite.

Thank you.

  1. Hyvaa paivaa! I came to Chester with my girlfriend yesterday and whilst visiting the cathedral we stumbled across your rehearsal. Needless to say our early evening return was delayed so that we could attend the concert. This was our first classical music concert and we loved it. We’re coming back on 24 June to watch your next concert. Great night.

Thank you Paul and thank you for the Finnish greeting. We too found it a wonderful experience. It’s so heartening to hear that folk enjoy our playing. The June concert will be very very tuneful and atmospheric, with Russian folk tunes scattered around like confetti (and I’m sorry but dancing will not be permitted). The Koussevitsky is a concerto for double bass, an instrument for which solo works are as rare as hen’s teeth, which will be performed by a young student from Cheetham’s School of Music Manchester. It should be a great night. Looking forward to seeing you then.
